Then last Friday the family and I loaded up the plane to begin our big Christmas Flying Adventure. We took off for New Orleans to attend Abby's dance competition; same one we did a year ago. Monday we got back in the plane and came up to Shreveport, LA to see my father-in-law and his family. Although we bucked a 35+ knot headwind, we had a smooth, direct flight which took us right over Barksdale AFB and straight in to Shreveport Downtown (KDTN).
After the front comes through tonight and hopefully the winds subside a little by tomorrow afternoon, we will take to the skies again to spend Christmas at my Dad and Kim's house in San Antonio, TX. It promises to be a full house and should be an awesome Christmas for everyone!
After Christmas we will head to Dallas for a few days and then on to Northwest Arkansas for New Years. After that we will head home so we can get back to work and school.
It is nice to have us traveling in the plane again and we are so blessed to have this means of travel available to us. I will post more about our trip when we get home, but I just wanted to write a quick little update.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
It sounds like a busy but fun Holiday travel plan. ALways fun catching up with family and the utility of having a plane makes it even better.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels and have a Merry Christmas!!
Thanks Gary! Here's to another full year of beach runs! Cheers
DeleteAwesome - glad you're getting some flight time these days. Have a great trip (trips?) and stay out of the ice if you get any that far south.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris. I haven't had the family in the plane since Spring Break. That has to change! Mary is getting a little better so I hope 2013 has us trying new places and things! As for Ice, I think that scares me more than thunderstorms; not going anywhere near it! Now if I could just find the kids some sow to play in, that would be great.
ReplyDeleteWell, Geoff, we're just getting our first accumulation of snow today. I know a friendly airport in the area... :-)
ReplyDeleteChris is getting way more than we are today! Calling for 1-3 inches here in Delaware today, just enough to be a bother and make me push broom or shovel the driveway.
ReplyDeleteI think you can still get in to ILG! ;)
Left San Antonio Thursday and had to climb through a pretty thick layer to get on top. Pitot heat worked well and the moisture stayed fluid! At least the temps we rising with altitude! I'm so used to dodging thunderstorms, it's been strange having to focus a lot of pre planning and flying focused on icing. The harder part has been trying to find ways to plug in my preheater at the FBOs!
DeleteGary - the wind drifted the snow three feet deep against our garage door the other morning. I would be happy to send some of it to you or Geoff! :-)
ReplyDeleteHow much does a load of snow flown to FL cost? We leave Dallas tomorrow for NW Arkansas and it looks like we will get our wintery request fulfilled!
DeleteNice plane Geoff! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas experience. How I wish I could go on a holiday vacation aboard a private plane like your Piper Lance. It would be so convenient and hassle-free without going through busy airport hubs and tight security lines.
ReplyDeleteThank you Corina! There are definitely a lot more freedoms traveling by general aviation. It's nice to just be able to mostly go on your schedule and not worry about how many bags we mighty check or whether or not I have some liquid amounting more than a few ounces!
